AWOS Level III Upgrade

CPAF is working to upgrade our AWOS system to Level III (3), which will add reporting for sky conditions, visibility and precipitation type. Additionally, O61 weather reports will be added to the FAA METAR reporting system, providing the latest weather information within your favorite app or ADSB FIS-B receiver. This upgrade will significantly enhance the weather information available for pilots who are inbound from a distant area and are trying to land at Cameron Park Airport (O61). With our current AWOS Level 1 system, pilots don’t know if the cloud layer is high enough for them to safely land at O61 until they get within 10-20 miles and can visually determine the bottom of the clouds. This upgrade currently costs $60,000 and can be installed soon after we raise the funds. Our goal is to get this installed before this winter.

Live Weather Cameras

CPAF worked with the airport management and Foothill Flight School to bring live weather cameras to the field. These can be viewed on the FAA WeatherCams site for minute weather updates – Be sure to check them out anytime you want to see what the skies look like around the airport.

Pilot’s Guide Video for new arrivals

CPAF wanted to help pilots who haven’t flown into O61 have safe arrivals, and also promote the airport location and a few surrounding facilities. CPAF members filmed some nice footage of the airport area and we created a “Pilot’s Guide to O61” video – which is available on YouTube. Check it out!
